I purchaesd a 1998 Galxy Gia 115bhp Diesal 4 weeks ago (private) and it wouldn`t start after 1wk, I then left it in to my local Ford dealer and after 2wks they fitted a new crank pulley and fan belt pulley , it is now running o.k but there is a wobble on the crank pulley. The mechanic in the dealers said it would be fine but i was talking to another mechanic after i took the car home and he said that i should go back and ask why there is a wobble.Any suggestions?. He also said that it might be that the crankshaft is damaged or worn. If so the dealers should have informed me of this before preceeding , as it could happen again. Would i be right in bringing the car back and asking them to rectify the wobble as i would not be comfortable driving the car in case it breaks down again?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

 

1st things 1st, if yours is a 98 car it definately IS NOT a 115 Tdi, it will be a 90 or a 110, now we know that if it's a 110, then there's only 5 bhp missing - but the point is they may as well be 2 completely different engines!

 

Tdi 90 & 110 are "traditional" direct injection motors, with diesel injector pump, pipework and injectors all visible when you take the plastic cover off the top of the engine.

 

115 (and 130) are PD or pumpe deuse engines, with unit injectors, each pressurised by an exhaust lobe on the cam, and the fuel being released into the chamber electrically...

 

So, if the dealer has relied on you telling them it is a 115 - (they really are this thick!) they may have fitted the incorrect parts, as the crank pulleys are different - the 115 & 130 have a timing belt which is 5mm wider to compensate for the extra load.. Or then again thay may simply not have tigtened the retaing bolt.......

sorry my appologies it is 110bhp. I don`t know that much about cars just the basics. If it turns out that the crankshaft is worn or damaged, should the dealers have notified me before proceeding to put the new parts onto a faulty crank?

There is a small rased pimple on the mounting face that MUST locate in a hole in the pully. My money is on the pully being on wrongly.

 

Also the pully is bolted onto the crankshaft with four tapered headed bolts.

 

If they are removed the splines in the head of the bolt often strip out. If they have then been replaced with the wrong type (non-tapered head) then the pully will not be correctly located.

 

 

But my money is on the pimple not being in the hole....
